Canadian Grand Prix History

The Canadian Grand Prix made its Formula 1 debut on August 27, 1967, at Motorsport Park Road Course in Bowmanville, Ontario. That race was won by Jack Brabham. In 1968, the race was moved to Circuit Mont Tremblant Ste Jovite which is located near Montreal Quebec. During the 1969 and 1970 racing seasons, the race alternated between the two locations.

For the 1971 season, a permanant home was selected. The Motorsports Park Road Course hosted the Canadian Grand Prix from 1971 to 1977. Starting with the 1978 season, the Formula 1 event moved to the Gilles Villeneuve Circuit on the Ile de Notre Dame in Montreal. This venue hosted the event annually, except 1987 when the event was not held, until 2008, when the last Canadian Grand Prix was contested. For the 2009 Formula 1 racing season, the race was not placed on the schedule.
