The medical industry has always relied upon information in the form of medical records and publications for the delivery of medical data. With the advent of the information age and the wide spread use of the internet, medical information is far easier to obtain for research and make available to the population at large. This presents a wealth of new information to any and everyone that is seeking it. With this, doctors, nurses, health care providers and patients will have a better means to examine their ailments and sicknesses.

There is a downside as well; with all of this information is misleading or false information that could be used to mislead individuals. The information age has prompted the use of accurate information and the distinction between reliable and unreliable data. Medical information sites should always have their information verified; that is it should be confirmed through a known source such as a medical health provider or a doctor prior to a patient using the information found. The same is true for doctors using medical resources online. They need to be sure that the data is true by verifying it with other doctors similar to second opinions.

The separation of good information from bad has always been a concern for health care providers and has become an increasing concern as information is made readily available to the mass populations. This distinction will not only apply to diagnosis sites but also to support group sites, terminology, and reference sites used by students and professionals alike. Medical organizations and research institutes are in the process of verifying and creating verification standards for medical resources online, but until they are solidified individuals will need to exercise caution while searching for answers to medical questions.
