Kentwood Chiropractor, Dr. Randy Wilcox | I have been a lifelong resident of Wyoming, MI, having graduated from Wyoming Park High School in 1973. While in high school I played a lot of basketball that resulted in several sprained ankles. My mom had heard about a podiatrist who "manipulated" the ankle and foot instead of the more traditional treatment of crutches and rest. This made sense to me and inspired me to pursue a podiatric degree. During my senior year at Grand Valley State College, however, something happened that would change my focus.
My brother, a newly graduated chiropractor, invited me to attend a chiropractic seminar, upon which I learned about this field of study for the first time. Well, I was hooked! Unlike podiatry, which involves only the foot and ankle, chiropractic dealt with the spine that protects the nervous system which affects the whole body. This really blew me away and before long I was at Life Chiropractic College in Marietta, Ga. Learning about the body and its amazing capabilities to heal itself was inspiring to me and after graduating in 1982, I was ready to share my new passion.
That was 25 years ago now and our profession has come a long way.
Early on we faced much skepticism and negativity, but acceptance for what we do has improved to the point that now many medical doctors refer to us, which was unheard of back then. We now are often the first choice for those suffering with problems associated with the spine. The focus of my practice has always been on helping people overcome their pain, immobility and loss of function naturally through chiropractic treatment. During this process I hope to impart to my patients the over-all healing benefits of the chiropractic adjustment, which you can learn more about by accessing links on my homepage.
I also offer nutritional counseling upon which I recommend physician grade whole food supplements from Standard Process and Biotics. Our goal is to offer our patients ways to improve their health through natural means as a way to counter the drug-obsessed approach to modern medicine.
Chiropractic has always been much more than just a job, it's been a way of life. My wife and I raised our family with the premise that the human body is self-healing and innately wise (thanks to the Creator who created it). Therefore we deferred to its healing potential by letting the body exhibit and withstand symptoms when they occurred. For instance, when our kids had a fever, we let the body fever, knowing that it was there for a reason, typically to kill a bacteria or virus. This went against the prevailing medical practice of taking a pill to get rid of a symptom. Our approach to health is multifaceted. It consists of proper nutrition, starting with breastfeeding and moderation in one's diet, exercise, low stress, positive thinking, and chiropractic spinal adjustments to maintain a healthy nervous system.
My wife Marge, besides raising our two children has always been involved in the practice and enjoys getting to know our patients. She believes passionately in living naturally and healthy and is a great partner to me in all ways. Our daughter Amy is a chiropractor, wife to Cory, and mother to Cameron, my first grandchild. She has a practice in our office and you can read her bio below. Our son Joe is married to Jamie and is a builder by trade.
My life when not working is filled with activities involving family and friends, golf and fishing, travel and home/cottage projects. I am blessed in that I love what I do and have never grown tired of doing it!
I look forward to meeting you in person and learning how we may be of service to you. Give our office call and let's arrange a time to explore your options. |
Kentwood Chiropractor, Dr. Amy Bale | Thank you for taking the time to read about our office. I am Dr. Amy Bale and daughter of Dr. Randy Wilcox. Like my father, I was raised in Wyoming, and graduated from Wyoming Park High School in 1998. Shortly after graduating I left for Iowa to go to chiropractic school for 6 years, then returned, only to get married and move to Detroit for 2 years, and now I am finally back for good. While in Detroit I practiced with another female chiropractor and was able to expand my knowledge and skills, especially working with pregnant women and children.
Being brought up in a chiropractic family had impacted the way I looked at health and wellness and made me want to be able to help people the way I knew my dad did. When I moved to Iowa to start chiropractic college, I was still surrounded by family as two of my cousins and my cousin's future husband were all currently going to school there. Learning all of the anatomy and physiology of the human body really made me realize how amazing our bodies truly are, and solidified my philosophy that the body was made perfect and could function properly if it was given the chance.
I now have a son, Cameron, born in February of this year. My belief that the human body could function properly on it's own allowed me to have a natural childbirth, with no drugs. I was confident that my body was able to do what it needed to do, without any interference, and I was blessed with a textbook labor and delivery and a healthy baby boy. Going through pregnancy, labor and delivery and now breastfeeding has allowed me to expand my knowledge in all these areas and I'm excited to share it with others.
My husband Cory, who had never been adjusted before meeting me, is now my best patient. I never have to tell him to get adjusted, he's always asking me first. He very quickly realized how much better he felt after getting adjusted and how we are all more healthy because of it.
Outside of work, I enjoy being with my baby as much as possible, reading, taking walks and hanging out with family and friends. |
Carmen, Kentwood Massage Therapist | Hi, my name is Carmen and I am the massage therapist here at Wilcox Family Chiropractic. I grew up in Jenison, having graduated from Jenison High School in 2002. I have always had an interest in the health sciences, especially anatomy and physiology which led me to the Blue Heron Academy for massage therapy training. There I completed the 600 hour course of study of massage therapy and earned my certification.
My first job after becoming certified was at a day spa. Although gratifying in some respects it did not completely satisfy my desire to apply what I had learned. So I was excited to have the opportunity to join the staff at Wilcox Family Chiropractic and be able to apply more of my skills in the therapeutic aspect of massage. I continue to study and to learn ways to be more effective in my techniques.
Outside of work I enjoy being outdoors as much as possible, reading, and spending time with my boyfriend, friends and family.
We offer a five-minute complimentary massage as well as half off one's first massage session. I primarily do chair massage but full body massage is available on Thursday afternoons. While most insurance plans do not pay for massage therapy, there are a few that do. You may be able to use a flex spending or a health savings account for this therapy as well. The fee for massage therapy is $1/minute. If you have any questions, email me or call the office. |
