In order to care for your natural stone surfaces properly, you must know which cleaning product is designed specifically for your type of stone. Mild acidic solutions can be used for cleaning siliceous stone like granite, slate, and sandstone. Calcareous stone such as marble and limestone, however, requires different care because it is sensitive to cleaning products with acidic qualities. Similarly, knowing exactly what caused the stain simplifies the stain removal process. You can make a poultice by combining the appropriate chemical or liquid cleaner with an absorbent material to remove the stain.
