It would be rare for someone to live in this day and age without coming into contact, in one form or another, with Sharp Corporation. This electronics manufacturer has been in existence for almost one hundred years, and has produced commodities ranging from cash registers to solar panels to LCD's. A major component of the corporation's nearly three-trillion dollar revenue is its line of televisions, sold under the brand name Aquos.

Sharp Aquos televisions have taken a steady hold on the market of consumer televisions and entertainment systems, mostly due to the incredible picture quality offered on all of the models manufactured, as well as the sleek and innovative designs common to each set. These range from compact 13-inch models to enormous mini-theatre systems measuring 108 inches. These televisions are consistently on the frontier of television research and development, producing technologies that allow ten-bit panels, running at 120 hertz with a 27,000:1 contrast ratio and a five-wavelength backlight system. Aquos likes to separate itself based on the following characteristics: high contrast ratio, high-resolution full HD panel, high-performance color filter system, an all-digital one-chip image processor, and energy-saving technology (offering roughly 16% less electricity consumption than similar models).

From its beginnings, releasing the first Japanese television in 1953, to introducing the 108" television in 2007, Sharp has been a pioneer for television technology as well as environmental awareness. With cogenerative and photovoltaic power-generated systems, Sharp's Kameyama plants are considered "Super Green." Its second plant, added in 2006, boasts the world's largest roof-mounted solar electricity installation.

Warranty Information
Sharp offers a one-year warranty on parts and only a 90-day warranty for labor in the U.S. It goes without saying that all models will be replaced or serviced (with required parts replaced), as determined by the warrantor. In other words, Sharp will do it if they feel like it.

Common Repairs
Consistent complaints surfaced about sound intermittencies, with the sound going off randomly or being extremely low. Some owners have experienced particularly fragile RF connections on the back panel of several television models. This has resulted in cables ripping out this feature, requiring service immediately for functionality. Some reports of banding, or visible strips on large areas of black or white, have been reported, but not in a manner that would cause alarm. Unfortunately, many of these problems fall outside the standard 90-day warranty period on Aquos televisions, compared to the one-year typical of almost every other major brand.
