Just a Girl and Her Stake - The Buffy Page

The phenomenon began in 1997 when the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series debuted on television. The show brought vampires to life and proved to everyone that girls can kick butt too. Sarah Michelle Gellar portrayed Buffy, the high school girl with a fate to save the world... over and over and over. Buffy the Vampire Slayer was on television from March 1997 through May 2003 and the fans continue to stay loyal buying comic books that tell the story of what happened to the characters after the show ended.

Characters:

Buffy Summers - Buffy Summers, portrayed by Sarah Michelle Gellar is sassy, smart, sarcastic and strong. Chosen by fate as the next in a line of women that are destined to fight the vampires and demons of the hellmouth, she may not have the carefree life of a normal young adult but she never lacks for excitement.

Angel - Portrayed by David Boreanaz; Angel, as he's known in his soulful form, is a good Vampire cursed by gypsies to have a soul and live with the guilt brought on by the memory all the innocent people he has slain as Angelus. Angel loved Buffy and gained such a fan base of his own that he was given his own television spin-off which ran for 5 seasons.

Willow Rosenberg - Alyson Hannigan brought to life the nerdy redhead who never quite fit in. She is Buffy's best friend and a powerful witch. Throughout the series she struggles with relationships when her first real boyfriend is turned into a werewolf and leaves to go find a cure, and while he's gone she falls for another female witch named Tara. Tara dies in the 6th season and sends Willow down a dangerous power trip.

Tara Maclay - A young witch struck down in her prime. Tara didn't make her first appearance on the show until season 4 when she meets Willow at a campus Wicca group. Tara is quiet and nervous at first but quickly integrates herself into the "Scooby gang" of Buffy and her closest friends. The actress who played Tara is the brilliant and multi talented Amber Benson.

Daniel "Oz" Osbourne - Comic genius Seth Green starred as the rocker werewolf Oz. A mysterious character you never quite know what Oz is thinking. Oz left the show to find a cure and only had infrequent appearances afterwards.

Faith Lehane - No one could have brought the bad slayer to life as well as Miss Eliza Dushku. Faith is strong, dangerous, and troubled. She was triggered as a slayer when Kendra, a slayer triggered when Buffy drowned in Season 1, was killed. Each time a slayer dies a new slayer comes into existence. Faith murders, lies, and steals and yet people still love her.

Anya - A vengeance demon who gets stuck in a human form. Anyanka, or Anya as she is referred to in her human form, doesn't understand much about how humans live and operate. Anya falls in love with one of Buffy's best friends, Xander, and on the day of her wedding, Xander calls the wedding off leaving Anya to suffer and ultimately get her vengeance demon job back. Anya was brought to life by the talented Emma Caulfield.

Xander Harris - One of the first friends Buffy made upon moving to Sunnydale . Nicholas Brendan starred as Xander, an awkward and nerdy guy who has a hard time relating to girls. He's dorky and has a fear of Nazi clowns and is often portrayed as the comic relief. He's the one who gets to play slave puppet to Dracula, the one who gets possessed by a hyena, and the one who gets the "funny syphilis" as he calls it. A staple to the scooby gang and always loyal no matter what demons set their evil eyes on him.

Dawn Summers - Buffy's little sister and the magical key to open the door to scary hell dimensions. Dawn didn't appear until season 5. Played by Michelle Trachtenberg, Dawn is your typical teenage girl who gets jealous and wants nothing more than to be noticed. It's hard having to exist in the shadow of a sister with super powers.

Rupert Giles - The watcher, teacher, and father figure of the series. Giles trains Buffy to be a slayer and quickly comes to care deeply for Buffy and all her friends. Giles is brilliant and contains huge amounts of information on demons, vampires, and all sorts of other things that go bump in the night. Anthony Steward Head stars as the watcher librarian.

Spike - A poet in his human life. Spike is a vampire and sworn enemy of Buffy, that is until he falls in love with her. Spike, portrayed by James Marsters, falls for the slayer and goes out and fights to get back his soul to prove his love for her. A favorite among fans of the series, Spike's Billy Idol- esque appearance wins the hearts of hordes of female fans, and even some of the guys.

Episodes:

Buffy has had some extremely memorable episodes that stood out and pushed the limits of TV. Included among these is the award winning musical episode Once More With Feeling and the silent episode Hush.
