In May 2003 we expanded our services to include 24 hour emergency care.
We are full service, AAHA certified animal hospital, fully equipped with the latest technology including laser, endoscopy, and ultrasound.
Our professional, caring staff, along with our state of the art facility, enables us to offer a wide range of general and specialized services for dogs, cats, birds, and exotic pets.

Doctors
Dr. Patricia Collins
Dr. Patricia Collins graduated in 1988 from the University of Munich, Germany and completed her doctoral thesis at Cornell University. After working in small animal medicine in Westchester, she joined the Valley Cottage Animal Hospital in 1992 and became a partner in 1994. Dr. Collins loves being a part of a state-of-the-art hospital with caring, supportive staff and devoted clients. She volunteers at the Cornell Cooperative Extension educating students and she also provides on site veterinary care at dog shows. Her special interests are internal medicine, laser surgery, nutrition and pharmacology. Personal interests include cooking, baking and spending time with her family, which includes a greyhound, cat, and bird.
Dr. Diane Tortorice, Dipl. ABVP
Dr. Diane Tortorice graduated in 1991 from North Carolina State University. Prior to joining the Valley Cottage Animal Hospital in 1997, she practiced veterinary medicine in NW New Jersey for two years and in Rockland for four years. In 1999 she became a partner at our hospital. Special interests include internal medicine, ultrasound, CT scan and MRI diagnostics. She currently serves as the President of the Westchester-Rockland Veterinary Medical Association. Beloved pets include a pug, 'Pugsley', a mix named 'Jessie', a tortoise shell cat, 'Isabella' and a cockatiel. Personal interests include playing sports, gardening and collecting antiques.
Dr. Linda Atkins
Dr. Linda Atkins is a 1991 graduate of Cornell University. She has enjoyed working in small animal practice in Rockland County since graduation. After joining Valley Cottage Animal Hospital in 1993 she became a partner in 1997. Dr. Atkins has a special interest in ultrasound, feline medicine and exotic pets. She is also the consulting veterinarian for the Bear Mountain Zoo and performs hospital tours for local children's groups. Personal interests include gardening, reading and family time including her four kitties and two birds.
Dr. Laura Murphy
Dr. Laura Murphy is a 1996 graduate of Tufts University. She worked in a small animal practice in Massachusetts prior to joining the Valley Cottage Animal Cottage in 1998. Her interests include internal medicine, dermatology and preventative health care. She enjoys teaching children about veterinary care and wellness. Personal interests include running, horseback riding, gardening, and spending time with her family. Dr. Murphy has four cats, one dog, a rabbit, two gerbils and many fish.
Dr. Jessica Downing
Dr. Jessica Downing graduated from Cornell University in 2004. She worked in a small animal practice in upstate New York before she came to the Valley Cottage Animal Hospital in 2005. She currently works as a full time associate allowing our hospital to expand our routine hours to include some time on Sundays. She has a special interest in internal medicine and ultrasonic diagnostics. Her personal interests include photography, baking, running and weight training.
Dr. Javier Diaz
Dr. Javier Cabero Diaz graduated from the Universidad Iberoamericana, Santiago, Chile, College of Veterinary Medicine in December 2001.
He completed the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduate Program, and a 48 week Clinical Year Training and evaluation Program in small and large animal medicine at the Okalahoma State University, College of Veterinary Medicine in June 2007.
Dr. Diaz's professional interests include small animal general medicine, surgery, and internal medicine. He currently resides in New Rochelle with his wife Antoinette, and their two labs, Tonka and Max. His personal interests and hobbies include traveling abroad, music, guitar, biking, museums and theatre.
Dr. Russell Petro
Dr. Russell Petro is a 1976 graduate of Cornell University. He worked in small animal practice in Puerto Rico, Massachusetts and at the Westbury Emergency Clinic on Long Island. In September of 1980 he opened the Valley Cottage Animal Hospital at the Lake Ridge Plaza in Valley Cottage. Due to a rapidly growing practice he had the current hospital built in 1988. His interests are orthopedic and general surgery and reproductive medicine. Personal interests include spending time with his family including a greyhound and 2 cats, photography and Tae Kwon Do where he is a third-degree black belt.
