Description

Norwalk Animal Hospital and Dental Clinic has been serving the veterinary needs of the community since 1981. It is our goal to provide your pet with the highest quality veterinary care possible. We excel at providing individualized care for every patient, as well as addressing the needs and concerns that you, as a pet owner, may have. We treat your pets as if they were our own!

We frequently provide tours for schools, scouting groups and other organizations and encourage anyone who is interested in seeing our hospital to ask for a tour. Our doctors and staff are dedicated to keeping your pets healthy.

Dr. Richard McFarland

Dr. Richard McFarland

When I was a boy I remember my mDr. McFarland and Dogom and I taking my dog "Shadow", a Newfoundland, to the veterinarian for his annual check up. I remember being curious about everything the doctor was doing and all that I saw. That same curiosity has stayed with me throughout my career and kept my love of veterinary medicine strong.

I grew up in Westport, CT as the oldest of three children. I graduated from Staples High School and did my undergraduate and graduate studies at Michigan State University. I completed the requirements with honors from the College of Veterinary Medicine in 1973 and opened my practice in 1981. Continuing my professional development I became a Fellow of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry in 1998.

I am married to Joan McFarland and have two beautiful daughters, Sara and Kate. Joan is a talented singer, songwriter and playwright. We live in Norwalk with our dog, cats, and rabbit. In any free time I may have, I enjoy sailing.

Dr. Harlan McLaughlin



I have had pets my entire life and love working with animals. I grew up in Maine and Texas and graduated from Texas A & M College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. After graduation, I returned to New England and immediatley started working at Norwalk Animal Hospital and Dental Clinic.

Professionally, my special interests include surgery and neurology, but nothing comes close to the joy of a new puppy or kitten exam.

Away from work, I enjoy reading, kayaking, playing ice hockey and spending time with my family.

I currently have one dog, three cats and a tortoise.
