Doctors
Dr. Stephen C Steep
Dr. Steep is a 1977 graduate of Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He has extensive experience in companion animal general medicine and surgery. He has practiced in Northern Virginia and was well known in East Detroit, before coming to Oxford in 2005.
Steve and his wife, Anne - a public health nurse, have 4 pets - all rescue animals. Brutus and Nellie were from a litter of 5 kittens left abandoned at the clinic doorstep. Millie was a mix breed dog that had been injured and abandoned as a young pup. Mollie came from the streets of Detroit and was rescued by Detroit Animal Care and Control. She met her new family at the Miracle of Life Healthy Pet Surgical Suite at the Michigan State Fair in 2008. They are one happy family!
He is an instructor in the Veterinary Technician program at Macomb Community College. His classes, past and present, include Small Animal Diseases, Pharmacology, and Clinical Pathology II Lecture.
Dr. Steep is a member of numerous professional associations including the American Veterinary Medical Association, Southeast Veterinary Medical Assocation, and the American Animal Hospital Association. Active in the Michigan Veterinary Associaiton, Dr. Steep is the past president of the MVMA, the former chair person of the MVMA Veterinary Informatics Committee, Emergency Preparedness Committee, and the Legislative Advisory Committee. He is also an avid supporter and volunteer surgeon in the MVMA Healthy Pet Surgical Suite.
Dr. Joel Smiler
Dr. Joel Smiler is a graduate of the 1969 Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Smiler and his wife Dr. Kathy Smiler (also a veterinarian) have four boys, an Akita, and a pug. They moved from Vermont in May 2004. From 1973 to 1993, Dr.Smiler was in partnership and management of the North Hills Veterinary Hospital, in Rochester, Michigan. He is also the president of Rex Point Kennels, Inc., a large suburban pet boarding facility. Dr. Smiler is an accomplished practitioner and enjoys many areas of veterinary medicine, most notably behavior and dermatology.
