Description

Our Mission Statement:

Piper Heritage Veterinary Clinic is committed to the highest level of veterinary care for every patient. Individualized, compassionate care is the cornerstone of our practice. Our veterinarians take the time with each patient to deliver individualized preventive care to promote lifelong health for our patients. Pets that become ill are cared for with compassion as an accurate diagnosis is determined and treatment is delivered.

p3.jpgSince client education is critical to the lasting health of our animal friends, our veterinarians and staff will spend as much time as needed to ensure complete understanding for all owners. Finally, we strive to provide an accommodating, comfortable atmosphere for patients and owners. We will never take for granted the trust every owner shows us by placing a pet in our care.

Piper Heritage has state of the art equipment. We have both radiograph and ultrasound capabilities and are very proud of our new digital dental radiograph system. We are also equipped to perform basic blood tests, urinalyses, biopsies, and cytology in house and use an outside laboratory for additional testing. These diagnostic capabilities allow our doctors to perform timely and accurate diagnoses to better care for your companion.

Serving Kansas City for 33 years.

Richard Smith, DVM, Diplomate ABVP

Dr. Smith received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Missouri in 1974. After enjoying small animal practice in Danville, Illinois for seven years, Dr. Smith purchased Piper Heritage Veterinary Clinic in 1981. Dr. Smith completed certification with the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in 1995 and recertified in 2004. As a board certified specialist, Dr. Smith accepts referrals from other area practices. He has a strong professional interest in orthopedic procedures and performs many procedures that are not commonly available in general practice.

Board Certification

The ABVP was established in 1978 to recognize excellence in clinical practice through the certification of species-oriented specialists. Veterinarians must participate in a residency program or have substantial practice experience, complete an extensive credentialing process and pass a rigorous two-day examination to receive board certification. Only about 800 veterinarians worldwide are ABVP diplomates.

Corbin Hodges, DVM

Dr. Corbin Hodges received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University in 2005. Doctors Corbin and Rebecca Hodges come to us from the Reno, Nevada area, where they practiced for the last two years. While in Nevada, Dr. Corbin saw many exotic patients. He was the only vet within a hundred mile radius of Reno who treated large snakes so his reptile clientele grew rapidly. Developing the exotics practice here at Piper Heritage is one of his goals. With the exception of birds, he has experience with many exotic species including pocket pets, reptiles, rabbits, and ferrets and enjoys the challenge that working with these special patients presents. He also has a special interest in orthopedics and dentistry.

Rebecca Hodges, DVM

Rebecca Hodges, DVM

Dr. Rebecca Hodges received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University in 2005. The Hodges family moved back to Kansas in June of 2007 and Dr. Rebecca enjoyed some time away from work while preparing for their first child, Caleb, to arrive in October. She joined our team this winter and is glad to be back to work. Dr. Rebecca enjoys meeting both new clients and new patients and believes that client education is one of the most important services she can provide as a veterinarian. Dr. Rebecca sees dogs and cats and is especially interested in soft tissue surgery, dermatology, and ophthalmology. She believes that attending continuing education events is paramount to staying current in her field and a great opportunity to stay connected to colleagues.
