Meet the Yexter

Greg Goldberg

Director, Enterprise Sales (Financial Services)

"I prospected Yext for almost 1.5 years trying to sell them on payroll, and I learned enough about what the company does to fall in love with it. I reached out and applied for a job because I knew I’d be good at selling what Yext offers."

Why did you originally decide to join Yext? What's keeping you here?

I learned a lot about Yext trying to prospect the Finance, HR, and Payroll teams and fell in love with the mission, so I decided to stop trying to set a meeting with Yext and sell for them instead.

Tell us about yourself.

I've been in tech since I was 19, working as a full-time intern at SAP on the Presales team while attending Drexel University. When I graduated, I worked as an Inside Sales rep at IBM on the Mobile Security team – that's where I really began to love sales. I then moved on to work at a Software Development Staffing firm called Yoh focusing on large staffing projects for Agile software dev. After that I worked at Paycom, a large payroll company that taught me the definition of grit and perseverance - it was my first really tough sales job.

I prospected Yext for almost 1.5 years trying to sell them on payroll, and I learned enough about what the company does to fall in love with it. I reached out and applied for a job because I knew I'd be good at selling what Yext offers. I started on the CBU team, running the East Coast for Food Services, then transitioned into a Generalist role mid-Covid.

Outside work, I love soccer and baseball. I collect shoes and soccer jerseys. I really enjoy working out and eating healthy.

What does a typical day in your role look like?

It's high energy, with lots of outbound emails and calls. Lots of research and digging into personal details of prospects and brands so I can make my messaging relatable and effective. A lot of work on Linkedin and ZoomInfo. Reading 10k reports and earnings call reports. The list goes on.

What was one of your favorite moments, projects or highlights during your career at Yext?

When I closed a 2-year, 360k deal with Coinmover, a large bitcoin company, on the last day of the fourth quarter in the fiscal year of 2020 – the deal that got me to President's Club.*

*President's Club is an annual celebration of the Revenue team's top performers.

What's something you wished you'd known before starting the job?

How awesome the people are here.

What advice would you give to a Yexter starting out new?

Learn the technical pieces of our platform, know what every button does, and how it connects to our mission and value delivered to customers. Understand every department within Yext - Engineering, Sales, Finance, HR, Platform Services and Support, Operations, Enablement, Legal, etc. Listen to our earnings calls. Listen to our execs when they talk, and then speak the language they speak to align with customers and prospects. Network with people in the company and don't be bashful to do so. Have coffee meetings, lunches – whatever it takes to know your colleagues. Read industry articles (Search Engine Land and Search Engine Journal are my two favorites) to stay up to speed on search.
