On August 24, 2020, Google launched version 4.7 of its Google My Business (GMB) API. This update includes enhancements to how your restaurant locations can display food menus on Google.

What is Google's new Structured Food Menu feature?

Google's new Structured Food Menu feature now offers several new attributes for your menu and food items. You can specify additional fields likeallergens, calories, and price, which will provide your business with two distinct benefits:

  • It will help provide hungry searchers with the information they're looking for when making purchasing decisions.

  • It will help your brand surface in search. As searchers continue to ask more pointed questions (think about the last time you searched online for a meal), sites like Google only want to deliver the most relevant answers. Syncing these additional fields with your food menus on Google will help your brand become more discoverable in search when someone asks a question like "pasta dish near me that's under 1,000 calories and contains no nuts?"

Please note that as a Yext customer, you must be syncing menu data from Yext via Menu Listings or the Yext for Food add-on to take advantage of this update.
