Meet the Yexter

Maxwell Davish

AI Product Development Lead

"One of my favorite moments was when our team came up with the idea for Semantic Text Search. We really stumbled upon it by accident and thought - 'Wow, this could really improve the product in a big way.'"

Why did you choose Yext? What’s keeping you here?

I originally joined Yext as part of the inaugural class of the Upward rotational program. I had heard about Yext from a friend who worked here and loved it, and he told me that they were starting a rotational program I might be a good fit for. I didn't quite know what I wanted to do but I knew I wanted to work in tech, so this was a perfect foray into the industry.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I'm a project manager at Yext. Before that I worked in consulting at Ernst & Young. As a PM I work on our Search product, focusing on the search algorithm and admin experience. My main areas of interest are deep learning, NLP, and UX design. In my free time I love to cook, run, and hang out with my dog, Woody!

What does a typical day in your role look like?

No two days look the same! On any given day I might be talking to customers, meeting with engineers, collaborating with UX designers on new designs, working with our marketing team, or building prototypes of my own. As a product manager you have to do a little bit of everything.

What was one of your favorite moments or projects at Yext?

One of my favorite moments was when our team came up with the idea for Semantic Text Search. We really stumbled upon it by accident and thought - "Wow, this could really improve the product in a big way." It's turned out to be a really powerful feature and we're even getting it patented.

What’s something you wished you’d known before starting the job?

How to code React JS.

What advice would you give to a Yexter starting out new?

Be aggressively curious! The tech industry is evolving so quickly that you need to be really curious to stay abreast of all of the new developments. And it's especially important to be curious about things that aren't obviously related to your job. Many of our very best ideas at Yext have been inspired by other companies and technologies in completely different fields.
